Bio-Cybersecurity Specialist
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Bio-Cybersecurity Specialist to protect and secure biological, healthcare, and research systems from emerging cyber threats. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cybersecurity principles, risk management, biomedical technologies, and regulatory compliance to safeguard sensitive biological data, laboratory environments, and healthcare infrastructure.
As a Bio-Cybersecurity Specialist, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including cybersecurity professionals, researchers, healthcare organizations, and IT departments to identify vulnerabilities, implement security controls, and ensure the integrity of biological and medical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess cybersecurity risks associated with biotechnology, healthcare, and laboratory systems.
- Monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to cyber threats targeting biological data and research environments.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing of healthcare and laboratory networks.
- Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and best practices for biomedical systems.
- Protect sensitive patient, genomic, and research data from unauthorized access and cyberattacks.
- Support compliance initiatives related to HIPAA, NIST, FDA cybersecurity guidance, and other applicable regulations.
- Collaborate with IT, research, and clinical teams to enhance cybersecurity awareness and resilience.
- Analyze emerging threats affecting healthcare, biotechnology, and life sciences sectors.
- Maintain incident response plans and participate in security audits and risk assessments.
- Prepare reports, documentation, and security recommendations for leadership and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity, healthcare security, biotechnology security, or related areas.
- Strong understanding of network security, threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management.
- Familiarity with healthcare systems, laboratory environments, or biomedical technologies.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and healthcare security standards.
- Experience with SIEM tools, endpoint protection platforms, and security monitoring solutions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, Security+, HCISPP, or GIAC certifications.
- Experience working with medical devices, clinical systems, genomic data, or biotechnology research environments.
- Understanding of cloud security and secure data management practices.
